The Hicks family on Facebook today announced Robert’s by the Lake will close permanently due to Chef Robert Hicks’ lengthy recovery from surgery.

The restaurant closed indefinitely on Jan. 31 for the chef’s medical procedure.

“Although Chef Robert’s surgery went perfectly, and his recovery is going smoothly, it will be a while longer before he can return to work, as his job is very demanding,” the family said.

“Due to the length of time Chef Robert needs to fully recover, along with other challenges we’re facing, it is unlikely that we will reopen Roberts by the Lake. We appreciate the past two years of support from the Canyon Lake community. We had fun meeting so many of you, and we learned so much.”

Family-owned Robert’s by the Lake was a popular northside restaurant specializing in Creole and southwestern cuisine.

Hicks also served as executive chef at two other successful Canyon Lake restaurants, Gennaro’s and Wildflour Artisan Bakery & Grill.
