‘Stars at Night’ Movie Explores Connection between Astronomy, Mythology and Storytelling

The New Braunfels Astronomy Club hosts a special screening of The Stars at Night, a feature documentary about the connection between astronomy, mythology and original storytelling, from 6-8:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 28 at Tye Preston Memorial Library, 16311 S. Access Rd., Canyon Lake.

Afterward, guests can visit the library’s observatory to view the stars and planets.

Stars at Night was produced by Elizabeth Buckley, a professor at Texas State University, who has won both an Emmy and a Peabody award and has 25 years of experience in film, television, new media, and animation.

The film premiered at the Austin Film Festival in November 2023.

Buckley said everyone should have a right to see a clear night sky.

“The solutions are so simple and save money,” she said. “There are towns in the United States where you can see the Milky Way from downtown. And locally, due in large part to the efforts of our Comal County Dark Sky group, Spring Branch and Bulverde have outdoor lighting ordinances spearheaded by Comal County Friends of the Night Sky’s current president, Michelle Molina.”
