Employees with Tesla’s Manufacturing Development Program (MDP) will visit Canyon Lake High School (CLHS) 10:45 a.m. Thursday, April 24 to help juniors and seniors learn to prepare resumes and practice interview skills.

Students can opt to participate in a paid seven-week Advanced Manufacturing Program at Austin Community College, “leading to full-time employment at Tesla.”

Academic Career Advisor Mandy Stefinsky said the electric car manufacturer reached out to CLHS in January, and the school welcomes businesses that work with students on job skills.

But since December 2024, Tesla stock has plummeted by around 50%, and boycotts of its dealerships, defacement of vehicles and peaceful protests by thousands of demonstrators are now routine due to the actions of South African-born Chief Executive Officer Elon Musk, founder of Space X and a close ally and advisor to President Donald Trump.

Musk famously made a Nazi salute at Trump’s inauguration Jan. 20, and now oversees the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), which is gutting government agencies and laying off thousands of federal workers while giving 20-year-olds access to sensitive U.S. Treasury Department information for millions of Americans.

A parent who forwarded information about Tesla’s appearance on campus to MyCanyonLake.com declined to comment publicly and said they did not know of any other parents willing to go on the record about the upcoming visit.

Stefinsky and CLHS Principal Mark Oberholtzer declined further comment about the optics of Tesla’s campus appearance.

On its website, Tesla invites students to become the next generation of manufacturing leaders and innovators and offers to provide graduating high school seniors with the financial resources, coursework, and experience needed to start a successful manufacturing career at Tesla.

“We’re looking for a new class of graduates to help us build a more sustainable future.”
