TxDOT Schedules Meetings to Review Improvements to SH 46 in Comal, Guadalupe Counties
Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) will host a virtual meeting and two in-person open houses next week to review proposed improvements to SH 46 from I-35 to I-10.
A virtual public meeting begins at 5 p.m. on Jan. 24. Visit Tx.DOT.gov and search keywords “SH 46 from I-35 to I-10” for more information.
An in-person open house runs from 5-7 p.m. Jan. 25 at the New Braunfels Civic/Convention Center, 375 S. Castell Ave. A second meeting is scheduled from 5-7 p.m. at The Big Red Barn, 390 Cordova Rd., Seguin.
TxDOT said improvements along SH 46 are needed to meet current and future traffic volumes and regional population growth. The proposed project would reduce congestion, improve mobility and increase safety.
“TxDOT is proposing to expand SH 46 with operational and coridor improvements including additional lanes, overpasses and intersection improvements,” the department said on its website. “The proposed expansion also includes limited ramp reconstruction along I-35.’
Existing right-of-ways are 120 feet. Recommended improvements to expand the state highway would require additional right of way and potentially displace residential and non-residential structures.
Relocation assistance is available, TxDOT said.

Hwy 46 could improve immensely without all the big trucks, police stopping speeders, stopping the light at deer crest drive from changing for one vehicle only, among other things. TX Dot should have started changes on Hwy 46 2 to 3 years ago when all the cardboard houses were being built.
