The U.S. National Weather Service Austin-San Antonio expects unseasonably hot weather to continue today and Monday as the first heatwave of the summer tightens its grip on the Canyon Lake area.

In a special weather statement this morning, the weather service said high temperatures each day will be in the upper 90s across most locations, with highs near 105 degrees along the Rio Grande.

Increasing Gulf moisture spreading inland could leave the area with isolated afternoon heat-index values as high as 108.

The weather service said heat advisories could be issued later today or Monday and warned people to drink plenty of water, wear light-colored and loose-fitting clothing, and to take breaks in the shade or in air-conditioned areas.

Hazy conditions also are forecast as seasonal burning in Mexico and Central America continues.
