Someone drove a vehicle through a window of the Comal County Democratic Party’s headquarters Thursday night, causing minor damage.

Party chair Victoria Locke said staff arrived today to find broken glass scattered around the office and filed a report with New Braunfels police.

There is no immediate indication the vandalism was politically motivated. New Braunfels police are reviewing security video and investigating the incident.

Tire marks show the perpetrator struck the window at an angle, clipping a corner of the building at 1592 W. San Antonio St., New Braunfels.

The building is located next to a Valero gas station.

“There was some structural damage to the building and, you know, we’re grateful no one was injured,” Locke said. “It happened to the Republicans earlier; it was wrong then, and it’s wrong now. You know, we can hold profoundly different views on almost every issue before us in our city, state, county, and country, and we should. Disagreement is the lifeblood of a healthy democracy, but when politics devolves into things like this, I mean it ceases to be politics at all. I hope that’s not what it is.”

Staff and volunteers are back at work in the office.

Comal County Republican headquarters, 150 N. Seguin Ave., New Braunfels, were vandalized in mid-January after someone broke in and lit a small fire.

Party chair Anita Valdez immediately described the vandalism as an act of “political violence” and said New Braunfels police were working with the FBI to identify the perpetrator.

Grace Carol Brown, 21, was later arrested and charged with allegedly setting the fire. She faces one count of terrorism, a first-degree felony.

This is the third time Democratic headquarters have been vandalized.

In February 2022, an anonymous vandal ran over a sign planted on an easement in front of Democratic Party headquarters.

In January 2022, a woman used a shovel to smash the door in.
