Walk Across Canyon Dam, Ceremony at Main Plaza to Mark Anniversary of 9/11 Terrorist Attacks

Canyon Lake Republican Women and the City of New Braunfels will honor the victims of 9/11 terrorist attacks with two special anniversary ceremonies on Sept. 11.

The annual Freedom Walk across Canyon Dam begins at 9 a.m. Monday, Sept. 11. The ceremony honors 9/11 victims, the military and first responders.

Comal County Sheriff’s Honor Guard will lead a procession across the dam.

U.S. Air Force veteran Steve Boatright is the featured speaker. Peaches Kelly, soloist and Bill Jones, bagpipe player, will perform.

No campaigning of any kind is permitted.

Cold water and shaded seating will be provided. Designated parking areas will be available off of South Access Road, locations to be determined. Shuttle service to Canyon Lake Dam will be available.

Remember 9/11 Anniversary Ceremony

In New Braunfels, members of the New Braunfels Fire and Police departments’ Honor Guard will march from Central Fire Station to Main Plaza at 7:25 a.m.

A flag raising and lowering ceremony at 7:46 a.m. commemorates the crash of American Airlines Flight 11 into the North Tower of the World Trade Center.

Traffic around the Main Plaza will be closed starting at approximately 7:15 a.m.

Those wishing to attend the ceremony should gather on the Main Plaza near the flagpole and bandstand. Traffic on the plaza will return to normal around 8:15 a.m.
