A woman walking her three small dogs near Canyon Lake Boat Ramp #7 around 7:30 a.m. Tuesday said she was shocked to find a body lying on the rocks.

The Canyon Lake resident, who requested anonymity but said she lives near the boat ramp, thought her dogs had discovered a dead fish when they suddenly bolted ahead of her.

Instead, she saw the body of a man wearing a bright red shirt. He had thick, dark hair and was lying in a pool of blood with his foot sticking out of the big rocks.

The woman said he was barefoot and there were footprints leading from the water toward the rocks. She quickly secured her dogs and stayed 50 feet away from the body, and could not provide any further details.

“I was shocked, honestly,” she said. “We go down there all the time, probably three to four mornings out of the week. I take my three little dogs down there for a walk, and I hardly ever see anybody.”

She called 9-1-1 and when Comal County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) arrived on the scene, they asked if she had seen a gun, which she hadn’t.

According to law enforcement, the body had been lying on the beach for some time.

The woman said she doesn’t walk her dogs in that area on weekends and was not on the beach Monday.

Low lake levels have created a beach area between the lake and the rocks where the body lay.

Texas Parks and Wildlife Department Public Information Officer Lerrin Johnson confirmed that a body was found near Boat Ramp #7 but said CCSO is investigating the crime scene. TPWD game wardens were not involved with victim recovery or investigation at all.

CCSO did not immediately return a request for additional information. Boat Ramp #7, currently closed due to low lake levels, is operated by Comal County.

This is a breaking news story that will be updated as more details become available.
