Water Oriented Recreation District of Comal County (WORD), which operates Comal and Canyon Parks, today announced new hours of operation for Boat Ramp #18.

Entrance gates for Canyon Park on the north side of the lake where the ramp is located will be open from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays.

All boats must be off the water and out of the park by 4 p.m. Vehicles still in the park after 4 p.m. may be towed. The entry fee is still $5 per vehicle registered in Comal County and $20 per vehicle registered out of the county.

The park itself remains closed.

WORD General Manager Mike Dussere warned that any damages, vandalism, or “behavior issues” could cause WORD to rethink its decision to keep the ramp open during the off-season. The new schedule will be reassessed after each weekend.

“Canyon Park is normally closed at this time of year,” he said. “WORD recognizes that only boat ramps 18 and 19 are currently usable and wants to continue to provide this service. Please understand that there are significant challenges to doing so, including staffing, upkeep, and ongoing park projects and infrastructure concerns.”

The Lone Star Light Show opens Friday in the park and runs six days a week starting at 5:30 p.m.

“The company running the show has been very understanding and accommodating of WORD trying to keep the ramp open while they are setting up and running the show, and we thank them for their support of the community,” he said.

All Canyon Lake boat ramps except #18 and #19 at Canyon Lake Marina are closed due to drought.
