Low lake levels have forced the Water Oriented Recreation District of Comal County (WORD) to close Swim Beach #1 in Canyon Park for the month of March.

“We will continually assess conditions and will be making determinations on future dates and possible weekend opening,” the district said on Facebook.

Comal Park and Canyon Park Main will open seven days a week.

WORD said it has added water-access improvements and non-water recreational amenities in Canyon Park Main and Comal Park — and more upgrades are on the way.

On Facebook, WORD said it will continue to “make improvements throughout the season for a better park experience.”

Canyon Park Main’s hours next month will extend from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. with last entry at 4 p.m. The change gives boaters more time to use Boat Ramp #18, one of only two ramps still open due to drought conditions.

Hours for Comal Park are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. with last entry at 4:30 p.m.

Entrance fees remain the same for both parks: $5 per vehicle with Comal County registration stickers and $20 for all other vehicles.

Summer hours will resume in April.

WORD accepts cash and most credit cards.
