people
Comal County Republicans prevailed in all state and local races. Party Chair Anita Valdez, second from right, kept an eye on results at a watch party Tuesday night.

The blue wave did not sweep red Comal County, where a majority of voters cast ballots for Republicans who lost major statewide elections.

As of 12:30 a.m. with 88% of expected votes in, the Associated Press called the U.S. Senate race in favor of Democrat Texas House Rep. James Talarico, who captured 53.9% of the vote. Democrat Gina Hinojosa will become the state’s first Latina governor, ousting three-time incumbent Greg Abbott with 52.6% of the vote.
