Thursday: Comal County Reports 329 New COVID-19 Cases, Three Deaths

Comal County reported 329 new COVID-19 cases today and confirmed the virus-related deaths of three residents.

Dead are:

  • A New Braunfels man in his 70s who died Jan. 19 at a New Braunfels hospital.
  • A southern Comal County man in his 80s who died at home on Jan. 8.
  • A New Braunfels woman in her 80s who died Jan. 14 at home.

The total number of deceased is now 494. The total number of cases reported since March 2020 now stands at 26,714.

On Thursday, Comal County hospitals reported caring for 57 COVID-19 patients. Of those, eight are in intensive care and five are on ventilators. Not all COVID-positive patients hospitalized in Comal County are necessarily county residents.

Approximately 82% of these patients are unvaccinated.

Countywide, some 62.75% of residents are fully vaccinated (two shots).

Residents who are looking for COVID-19 test sites should visit the Texas Division of Emergency Management website, meds.tdem.texas.gov, county Public Information Officer Cary Zayas said.

Public Health is administering Moderna COVID-19 vaccines for those 18 and older, and Pfizer vaccines for anyone five years and older. Booster vaccines also are available.
