It’s legal to sell, possess and use fireworks in unincorporated Comal County even though the burn ban remains in effect.
Fireworks and burn bans are two entirely different things. Cities can make ordinances prohibiting the use and sale of fireworks, but counties cannot.
In Canyon Lake, fireworks are only banned from launching on roadways and boat ramps. They also are banned within 600 feet of places of worship and licensed childcare centers and schools. It is illegal to shoot off fireworks from cars or at other vehicles.
Fireworks are not legal on any U.S. Army Corps of Engineers property/parks/trails.
Fireworks are illegal inside New Braunfels city limits.
In order for Comal County to ban the sale of restricted fireworks, classified as “skyrockets with sticks and missiles with fins,” the Keetch-Byram Drought Index (KBDI) must be at 575 by Dec. 15.
Today’s KBDI is 511. Commissioners will rescind the burn ban when that drops to 500.
County Fire Marshal Kory Klabunde warns those who use fireworks that cause damage or injury to others can be held legally responsible for their actions.
