The Central New Braunfels Historic District in Comal County has been added to the National Register of Historic Places!

Founded in 1845 by colonists of the Adelsverein, New Braunfels evolved from an early agricultural settlement into a prominent Hill Country destination.

The district’s architecture ranges from 19th-century fachwerk houses and Folk Victorian homes to early 20th-century Craftsman bungalows and commercial buildings in styles such as Romanesque Revival, Classical Revival, and Spanish Renaissance Revival. Notable landmarks include the Comal County Courthouse by James Riely Gordon, the Faust-Frueholz House by Atlee B. Ayers, and the Faust Hotel by Harvey Partridge Smith.

Listing provides recognition, technical assistance, and eligibility for certain preservation grants and tax incentives. To learn more about the National Register of Historic Places and preservation efforts across Texas, visit our website at thc.texas.gov/nrhp.
