CRRC’s Food Pantry will be renamed “Dr. James C. Curry Food Pantry” Wednesday to honor the local businessman for his service to the community.

A ceremony is planned for 9 a.m. at CRRC, 1917 FM 2673, Canyon, Lake.

Curry is the owner of International Food Systems, which produces snack dips, cheese sauces, seasoning blends, bakery products and sprouted ancient-grain blends.

In a statement, CRRC said his dedication to lab work, invention, experimentation and gardening inspired him to make permanent changes to how Comal County faces food insecurity.

The local businessman donated $50,000 to the Food Pantry and made a $200,000 endowment to support CRRC programs that provide crisis assistance, food-pantry services, education and recreation.

“Dr. Curry’s partnership with CRRC is a strong reflection of his commitment to put healthy and delicious meals on tables throughout the Canyon Lake community,” said CRRC Development Director Tiffany Quiring.

Newly appointed CRRC Executive Director Sean Bailey said Curry’s donation will enable the charity to feed thousands of families in the community for years to come.

Curry also works with volunteers at CRRC’s Joe Ed Lyle Community Garden, providing support, advice and expertise.

He also donated The James C. Curry Nature Center to Comal County in December 2013. The center features several native plant species and area wildlife.
