"I've been a patron at TPML since it first opened and when I lived in San Marcos, I would still drive out to Canyon Lake to get books."TPML is very excited to welcome Mireya to our team! Get to know her with some Q&A:
Previous Role before coming to TPML: Primary teacher in a two-year-old classroom at a daycare. I loved teaching those little stinkers, and I feel like it prepared me more for what I want to do eventually which is to become a children's librarian.
What excited you most about joining the team/working at the Library: Everything! I am passionate about books and libraries in general and Tye Preston is my favorite library I've been to. Plus, I've been a patron at TPML since it first opened and when I lived in San Marcos, I would still drive out to Canyon Lake to get books. It was a bonus that all the employees I had met before starting were always passionate and kind, adding to the appeal of going beyond just patronizing the library.
Favorite hobby/craft: Definitely crochet, though I do also love to sew and knit. I love pretty much anything that involves string! (I'm like a cat in that way)
A recent read you’d recommend: I recently read Circe as part of the blind date with a book event/program and it was so enjoyable! I loved how the author took the original Greek myths and weaved them together to create a magical yet disturbing reality that felt very authentic to the world that was commonly found in Greek tragedies.
A fact that still blows your mind when you think about it: The fact that dung beetles use the stars to navigate. And that scientists at one point decided to put tiny hats on dung beetles to prove this.
