🔥Texas Heat is No Joke — Hike Smart at Guadalupe River SP!🔥
We LOVE seeing y’all out on the trails, but the Texas heat can be dangerous—even deadly—if you're not prepared. Before you head out to explore our beautiful park, make sure you're ready to beat the heat!
💧Hydrate Before You Hike
Start drinking water the night before your visit. Out on the trails, bring at least 1 liter per person per hour—and don’t forget to sip, not chug!
🐶 Bringing a Furry Friend?
If the ground is too hot for your bare feet, it’s too hot for paws! Dogs can overheat quickly and burn their pads on sunbaked trails.
✔️ Hike early—before 10 a.m.
✔️ Take frequent shaded breaks
✔️ Pack additional water just for your pup
✔️ Know the signs of heatstroke in pets: excessive panting, drooling, vomiting, and collapse.
☀️Know the Signs of Heat Illness in People, Too:
* Dizziness
* Nausea or vomiting
* Muscle cramps
* Confusion
* No longer sweating
If any of these signs show up, stop hiking, get to shade, and call for help if needed.
🧢Other Pro Tips to Beat the Heat:
* Wear breathable, light-colored clothing
* Stick to shaded trails like the Bald Cypress Trail
* Tell someone your plans and expected return time
* Never rely on river water to cool off in—bring plenty of clean drinking water
🚫 Not sure you're ready for a hot hike? That’s okay. The river’s still flowing and the trails will be here when it’s cooler.
Let’s keep our people, pets, and park visits safe. We’re all in this together.
